Have no fear; its a fake, automatic black and gold.

Not saying there's anything wrong with an auto T/A nor one that's a replica black and gold, but just angry that not only are they marketing it like a true black n' gold on the show, but they'll probably get significantly more for it than any sold ever.

Just bitter I guess. I really don't like Gas Monkey.

10 pts to you! Sadly most Special Edition cars had the automatic, mine included.

Yeah I wasn't pleased with the build. I mean, they did put some nice parts on it, but they paid WAAYYYYY too much for the car and I had to laugh when the motor was junk. Twice.

Yeah. I got super pissed when I was watching the show where they repeatedly called it a Bandit T/A despite the incorrect wheels, missing pinstriping, and red hood emblem.

Well, I'm still on the fence if it was a real SE or not. Obviously the car had been repainted once before GMG got it so I can't go with decals to tell if it was real or not. In 1977 the badge on the nose would have been red, they didn't switch to gold until '78. Sadly many SEs had the 7 inch rims so those were correct. Also, the suspension and brakes check out, in '77 the WS6 car's still came with drums in the rear. In '78 WS6 cars moved to discs on all corners. Here's a nice webpage with all those facts, pictures, and more: http://www.78ta.com/special.php

Ah, I see. My mistake.

Well hopefully at some point it'll be clear whether its a real one or not.

The worst thing for me is that for a while, my dad was sitting on a '79 SE, built entirely for performance. No A/C, but manual and with the WS6 package. 60k miles, which is definitely a bit up there, but not too horrible. It was in great shape too, one quarter-sized rust bubble by the rear fender and that was it.

He couldn't give it away for a while. It ended up going for something like $8,000. Now that I look, they're going for waaaay more than that.

Maybe you and Takuro are sitting on gold mines.

No problem, I had a dilemma when I first saw that episode. Yeah, since I bought my car about 2 years ago the prices of have skyrocketed (as in almost doubled). Trying to find one that hasn't been abused or rusted to death is starting to be quite hard. In my car's previous life it had been a parts car and had all its valuable gold Special Edition parts taken from it. I got my car in rough but practically rust free, running, and driving shape for $2,500. The lady selling it didn't know it was a SE but still, the same quality of car now goes for more than 5k on craigslist.
